The Delights of The Gamut Room: You and Yourn

In the history of male/female indie duos (She & Him, Matt & Kim, The White Stripes) rarely do we find a pair that are happily in marriage. Today, I present to you the first! (Well, there is Avey Tare and Kria Brekken but we know how Pitchfork feels about them... ) So yes! Today is the first and if you didn't know already they are playing in the Gamut Room!

Now, I realize what you are thinking: "Oh, there goes another one of those 'indie folk duos' with their chilled out singer-songwriter air to them. Better bring out my worn-in flannel." Well! You, my friend, are wrong. This is not just "indie folk" music. It is "lyrically-driven, atmospheric chamber-folk" for the sophisticated hipster (perfect for the Gamut Room atmosphere). So head over there for the family affair around 8, eat some crepes and enjoy the beginning of a relaxing night.

Check out the music here (you'll enjoy, I promise).

Oh, did I mention they are touring with Andrew Bird in December? Yeah, I'll see you there.

Dan Deacon hospitalized

Looks like we just missed the cutoff on this one, folks. Our festive friend Dan Deacon has been hospitalized with back problems, causing him to cancel the remaining days on his North American tour. Damn you, acute sciatica! Read more here.

We know you really give it your all, Dan, and we really appreciate that, so you will be in our thoughts. Get well soon!

I suppose this is just what happens when you Get Older...

Rock on

!!! - "A New Name"

Tight performance of a standout track from their album Myth Takes.
Get down to it.

The video of "Heart of Hearts", another album standout, is good too.
Link to it here

Pitchfork recently reposted these videos in memory of the drummer, Jerry Fuchs, who died tragically last week in an elevator shaft accident. R.I.P.

New Music Wednesdays featuring Luke Lalonde

Yo WRMC peoples. Today is Wednesday i.e. Hump Day so we figure you wouldn't mind learning about a new tune to carry you across the rest of your week.

Today's tune is "Big Run" by Luke Lalonde (lead singer of the Born Ruffians). This single was released as a part of the Canadian music project known as Novels in which 5 Canadian artists from 5 different Canadian bands (Born Ruffians, Tokyo Police Club, Will Currie and the Country French, Ex-Po, and Jay Sad) came together in a small Canadian recording studio for a 24-hour marathon of writing, recording, and arranging a 5 track EP (in Canada). Nuts.

Luke Lalonde delivers with handclaps and tambourines (what more could you want?) in a song perfect for the start of your fall day. Check the video below to see how a truly brilliant artist produces such a lovely track.

Then go a bit lower and cop the track for yourself.

new Four Tet - "Love Cry"

Pretty great song from Four Tet's upcoming full-length, There Is Love In You. More minimal than his usual thing, but it's still got hip-hop-inspired drums, it's got some funky bass, and it's got some glitchy stuff in there too. It's good.
S'called "Love Cry". chchchcheck it.

The Middle East

“We went fishing last night.”

“Well you did, I watched from the rocks above. You caught two fish and it was for fun.”

“Your tackle box laid at your feet as you smiled up at me holding the fish you caught above your head. There was already one on the ground and the sun glinted its scales. They were nice fish. And you looked silly in your big hat. It was bright out out, and it was just for fun.”

“And when I woke up I completely forgot for a minute.”

“A whole minute of blissful forgetfulness, I couldn’t even remember why my alarm was set so early”

“Forgot what?”

“That something terrible will happen to me.”

“Today?”

“Not in-particular. It’s just that ever since I was little I knew something completely awful would happen to me.”

“Like death? You know that everyone dies.”

“I know that. But it will be worse than just death. Maybe it will be. I think it will be something worse. Something awful”

“So what did you do?”

“Well, I kept sleeping. As I am now.”

“Good, then I’ll start skinning the fishes”
