Dan Deacon

Basically this is turning into a place where I just talk about how much I like a handful of bands/people who play music. One of them is Dan Deacon.

He is just that fantastic.

The new Deacon album, Bromst, comes out March 24. Pitchfork.TV has some great footage of Deacon in the studio and Deacon playing some of the new songs for the first time in December with his ensemble band.

Taking his unique live shows and adapting them to include a band seems like it wouldn't work at first but with a bit of fine tuning and some practice I think he'll be able to come up with something delightful. At least I hope he does by May 12 so that when he comes to Higher Ground we all can get crazy.

The Boss Seeks Approval

In honor of Bruce Springsteen's new album the Springsteen camp is asking bands to show how they have been influenced by the The Boss. I think this is weird. You don't see Paul McCartney going around and asking every rock band today to pay homage to him and the other Beatles. Seriously Bruce, you are the last person on earth who should have low self-esteem. Leave that to college Djays who think no one is listening to their 3am radio shows.

200 Million Thousand Billion Hundred Ones

The Black Lips have done it again. Their new album, which hits stores on Tuesday the 24th is a great work running on the heals of their 2007 release "Good Bad Not Evil." The latest effort, "200 Million Thousand," utilizes the sounds of 60's surf punk and Cole Alexander's drooling vocals to create another fine, sweat-lathered album. I usually can't stand it when bands abuse lo-fi, (Clap your hands say yeah's second album), but "200 Million Thousand" pulls it off in stunning fashion.

Get to the shelves of your local Walmart or Kmart or Target or Walbaum's or Super Stop this Tuesday and pay full price.

Don Diablo v Missy Elliot

Don Diablo has been dropping a retarded amount of hot mixes and new tracks over the past couple months. Like 4 a week. Hes like the Lil Wayne of new remixes. Somewhat absurd.

Anyways, a remix on the 'Work It' acapella just dropped in my inbox, and is definitely worth a download. He takes nothing from the original song (besides the lyrics) but makes a dope and dancable mix. Its not quite a clubworthy as some of his other recent mixes, he takes it in a less bass-driven direction. Check it

around here at wrmc things are quite sleepy, since santa is bringing the station a makeover, and is bringing us lots of vinyl to move around come january. i hope that winter break has treated everyone splendidly, and that family has not made everyone completely 100% nuts.

Under Construction

WRMC will be undergoing a facelift this holiday season. While all of you are sifting through sails at Walmart, construction will be underway upstairs in Proctor Hall. We are all very excited to see what our new space will look like and have our finger's crossed that we will be able to broadcast live come January.
